TASTE

At Barinkoff Academy, there's only one rule: no students on campus after curfew. Phoenix McKay soon finds out why when she is left behind at sunset. A group calling themselves night students threaten to taste her flesh until she is saved by a mysterious, alluring boy. With his pale skin, dark eyes, and mesmerizing voice, Demitri is both irresistible and impenetrable. He warns her to stay away from his dangerous world of flesh eaters. Unfortunately, the gorgeous and playful Luka has other plans.

When Phoenix is caught between her physical and her emotional attraction, she becomes the keeper of a deadly secret that will rock the foundations of an ancient civilization living beneath Barinkoff Academy. Phoenix doesn’t realize until it is too late that the closer she gets to both Demitri and Luka the more she is plunging them all into a centuries old feud.

  1. Hello Kate,

I just read the first chapter of Lunar Heat and I loved it!!! I'm from the Netherlands and I don't know If I can ever read the whole story but I'm going to do my best to get my hands on it.

I was instantly sucked into the story and just couldn't stop reading and was sad to find the end of the chapter. I hope to read more of your stories!

    Sincerely,
    Annabel

  2. Hi Kate,

I would love to read an ARC of Lunar Heat - is there an 'About You' blurb that I can include with my post tomorrow? Maybe something about your book that will grab some reader interest? I'm happy to include it.

I wish you much luck with the pitching process. I guess just getting an agent is one-third the battle, eh? Maybe in the future if you have the time, we can do a guest post or interview on what it is like going through this?

    Best,
    Linds

  3. Hi Kate

I just finished your little taste of Chapter 1 and you got me hooked. Love your easy writing style and I can't wait to find out more about Dimitri and Phoenix. Did I understand you correctly? Could I get a sneak peak at the rest of the chapter? Will the book be published soon? I don't know if I would be able to stop at Chapter 1 - lol.

    Regards
    Chrizette

  5. Dear Kate,

Just saw your message on Book Blogs and visited your blog. I'm hooked to your novel Taste already. Phoenix with her spunk, apparent nonchalance, and yet vulnerability simmering below it all leaves a lasting impression. I would love to see the rest of the novel ! When is it coming out?

    Best regards,
    Swetha Sasindran

  6. Kate,

Great First Chapter! Fast paced and makes me want to read the next chapters! Well I'm a reader not a writer(yet) so that's pretty much where my opinion is coming from.I am serious when you get this published, you gotta tell me so I can read it!

Are you done with the whole story or are you just writing as you go?

    Alex

  7. Hi Kate,

I'm a new member of Book Blogs (no blog of my own yet) and I just read the excerpt of your book. I have to say that I enjoyed it, and I am dying to know more about Dimitri! The story seems very interesting and I would like to continue reading. Her voice seems realistic, and it sounds like she is a strong and confident girl. I haven't read much YA lit recently (other than the Twilight series), so I may not be the best critic, but as a high school teacher I will say that I am not too convinced that a teenager has enough self awareness to volunteer that she is acting out for daddy's attention. My opinion is based solely on my observation of my students, so please take it with a grain of salt.

  8. Hey Kate,

You have a really amazing first chapter. You grab the reader from the very first sentence and keep the interest held. I love the air of mystery surrounding Demitri and co. You have an idea what you think they are, but aren't totally sure. Phoenix seems like a bad with a heart. The daddy issues seem legit, and you've built her character nicely. The snatches of insight into her background leaving you wondering, but don't overwhelm you with too much information. It'd be great to see how she progresses through the novel. I'm salivating over Demitri. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT! lol. I highlighted the only thing that felt wrong to me in purple. It's just my opinion of how I think it should read. But anyway, from this chapter I'd say you have a great story on your hands.

  9. Hi Kate,

I've just finished reading the first chapters of Taste, Til Death, and Impulse on your website. The suspense and intrigue is killing me, especially with Hunter's Moon. Are there more chapters of either of these stories available to read?

Also, the cover art on all three are absolutely STUNNING!

    All the best,
    Jess
